The first 5-year review of the Copyright Act mandated by the 2012 amendments to the Act has now been completed. The House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology (INDU), which was charged with oversight of the review in December 2017, released its report on June 3, 2019. The INDU report, comprising, a comprehensive and balanced consideration of all of the testimony and briefs presented to the committee, offers 36 recommendations for consideration by the House of Commons.
INDU also invited the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage (CHPC) to provide INDU with recommendations on remuneration models for artists and creative industries. CHPC released its own report ahead of the INDU report on May 15, 2019.
