Dear Faculty Member,

As our copyright environment continues to evolve, so do the options for creating custom course materials. The University Copyright Advisor office and the Bookstore continue to work collaboratively on streamlining processes to help you to create custom course materials in the format that best suits your needs.

If you know you will require custom course materials for Summer or Fall 2012 or are even contemplating this possibility, here are some important timelines and processes. The following definitions may be useful as you continue to read through this memo:

Coursepack – A compilation of custom course materials, either in print or in digital form, that will be adopted, produced, and sold to students via the Bookstore.

Digital Readings – A collection of custom course materials that will be cleared for copyright permission and distributed to students via Moodle or the Library’s electronic reserve system.

Copyright Permission – The permission that must be verified or obtained from the rightsholder for each copyright-protected item in a collection of custom course materials.

If you would like an assessment of required copyright permissions to help you choose the production option most suitable for your custom course materials, please e-mail a copy of your bibliography as soon as possible to copyright@uleth.ca.

If you are interested in producing a coursepack that will be adopted, produced and sold to students via the Bookstore, please follow these steps:

1. Ask your departmental or faculty Admin Assistant to indicate on the Online Textbook Requisition Form that you require a coursepack. Please complete this step even if you have not finalized your decision to use a coursepack, as your request is easily cancelled at any time before production.
