On July 31, 2018, two of Canada's music copyright collectives, SOCAN and SODRAC announced their merger. The acquisition of Montreal-based SODRAC (Society for Reproduction Rights of Authors, Composers & Publishers in Canada) by SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors & Music Publishers of Canada) means that a single collective, SOCAN, will now manage both the performing rights and reproduction rights of songwriters, composers and music publishers. For more information see SOCAN's news release and a Globe & Mail article by Josh O'Kane.
