This year we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day on April 26, with a special focus on "the brilliance, ingenuity, curiosity and courage of the women who are driving change in our world and shaping our common future."  Supporting resources on the World IP Day website maintained by the World Intellectual Property Office include

  • a social media kit,
  • short YouTube videos about women in innovation and creativity from around the world, and
  • a brief on Innovation, Creativity and the Gender Gap which highlights evidence that on the global stage, women acquire and use IP less often than their male counterparts in various areas such as patent grants, film directing, screenwriting, and copyright ownership.

Activities of the House of Commons Standing Committee responsible for reviewing the Copyright Act can be tracked on the Review's webpage. Information available here include Committee meeting minutes, a place to participate in the Review by submitting a brief, and live and archived streams of televised meetings involving presentations to the Committee on behalf of various organizations and constituencies.

Phase 1 of the Review began with a televised hearing involving presentations to the Committee by witnesses from Universities Canada, the Canadian Federation of Students, the Canadian Association of University Teachers, and Campus Stores Canada. The archived stream of that hearing held April 17 can be found here.
