On February 8, 2017 the Quebec Court of Appeal authorized a class action brought against Laval University by Copibec. This ruling overturns the Quebec Superior Court's dismissal of the class action one year ago. Copibec indicates it will now seek another Quebec Superior Court hearing on the merits of its class action.

On January 27, 2017 the Federal Court of Appeal delivered its judgment in the judicial review sought by Access Copyright of the Copyright Board's 2010-2105 K-12 tariff decisions.  The Court found no reviewable errors in the Copyright Board's analyses pertaining to fair dealing and what does or does not constitute a "substantial part." The Court ruled the only reviewable error requiring reconsideration by the Board is a technical matter regarding estimation of the size of Access Copyright's repertoire.
