Book Club Etiquette

  • Be on time.
  • Be respectful of others.
  • Ask questions to gain understanding or clarity.
  • Keep an open mind to opinions that may differ from yours.
  • Everyone is invited to speak.
  • Keep your comments brief so others may have a chance to speak.
  • Try to avoid spoiling major plot-twists as you talk about your book, whether recommending it or not.

Welcome to the BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) Club!

This book club will have participants discuss different genres/formats each month. Attendees are to bring their own book that fits the genre/format to share.  Open to all students, staff, and faculty of the University of Lethbridge.  Drop-in, no registration required.  Join in the months that interest you!

When is it?

January 17, 2024, 12-1 p.m.:  Science Fiction

February 14, 2024, 12-1 p.m.:  Fantasy

March 20, 2024, 12-1 p.m.:  Graphic Novels

Where does it take place?

Meetings will take place in the Our Stories space on Level 10 in the University Library.

Since it is at noon, can I eat my lunch?

Yes, as long as the University Library's food and drink policy and food and drink guidelines are followed.

Where can I find a book to read and discuss?

Short answer, anywhere!

Each month, the U of L Library will have a display of books for inspiration but book club participants are not limited to read a book from the U of L's collection.  You can read and discuss a book from your own collection, one borrowed from a friend, or from another library.  Lethbridge Public Library (LPL) is a great option for borrowing books -- if you don't have an LPL or Chinook Arch Regional Library System card, ask at the Library Services Desk about the TAL card; it's free!  To purchase books, the U of L Bookstore, Analog Books, or Chapters are all good options; however, purchasing the book you discuss is not necessary!
