Ian Tyson Collection

Items bequeathed by the late Ian Tyson, located primarily in the Tyson Reading Area

Ian Tyson (4396806840)Dr. Ian Tyson, notable singer-songwriter and Alberta rancher, received an honourary degree from the UofL in 2015. He passed away in December 2022 and bequeathed his personal library to the UofL Library. A space on level 10 of the Library has been created in his honour which houses the majority of these books, focusing on the topics of southern Alberta, ranching, and music. Other items have been placed in the main collection (some fiction) as well as several in Special Collections. Many of these items have been inscribed by the authors to Ian, and many personal treasures were found within their pages - some of which are also on display in the Tyson Reading Area.

Below is a selection of titles in the collection; note some are in our Special Collections and must be accessed by appointment. The rest are housed in the Tyson Reading Area on level 10 south of the Library; feel free to visit, browse through the books, and enjoy the beautiful view.
