Databases for Agriculture

Research articles are grouped inside databases (or indexes, as they were once known) and are an excellent place to begin your research. Instead of beginning on the library homepage and searching through everything in the library collection, starting within an agriculture database will only show you resources related to agriculture.

For example, imagine you want peer-reviewed, scholarly articles about optimal growing conditions for sweetgrass. A search for sweetgrass on the library's homepage will include the suggestion of Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants, which is an excellent book but not particularly focussed on your research need.

Save yourself time. Select an Agriculture database from the list below to make your initial searches more effective.

For any information (articles, books, and so on) the library doesn't already own, please request it. We will find it for you at no charge, usually within a few business days. Just complete an interlibrary loan request.

Wondering if the UofL subscribes to a specific journal?
This lookup function will tell you whether the UofL has access to a given journal, a given year/volume of the journal and where, within the universe of the University of Lethbridge, that journal is located — whether in print, electronic, or microform format.

Be sure to take note of the range of years available. Many of our electronically-delivered journals have embargos of weeks to years depending on the journal.

If the Library does not subscribe to a given journal or to the particular issue of interest, please do use interlibrary loan. You will be notified by email when your article is available and, whenever possible, that email will include a link to the PDF so that you may retrieve it for your personal use.
