Tools for Locating Datasets and Variables Within Datasets

ODESI - Ontario Data Documentation, Extraction Service and Infrastructure
A search tool for locating metadata and/or variables from content accross multiple data providers. Note: U of L users cannot extract data from this tool but it works well to identify content of interest.
DLI (Data Liberation Initiative) Available Surveys - Statistics Canada
List of surveys available through the DLI. Documentation is freely available; data must be requested from the data librarian. The Other DLI Data Products page describes data-related tools facilitated via the DLI program.
Canadian Research Data Centre Network - Available Data & Surveys
Provide secure access to Statistics Canada detailed microdata "masterfiles" from population and household surveys, censuses and administrative data sets. Access limited to those with projects approved by Statistics Canada. Intended for research which cannot be conducted using Public Use Microdata Files (PUMFs) available through the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI).

Find datasets stored across thousands of repositories on the Web.
Federated Research Data Repository (FRDR) [Canada]
Search FRDR to find research datasets originating from researchers affiliated with Canadian institutions. Data deposited to other repositories across Canada can also be found by searching in FRDR.

Supports open discovery, management, sharing, and preservation of Canadian research data

Ipsos Canadian Public Affairs Dataverse [Wilfrid Laurier University]
An open-access collection of 60+ Ipsos Canada surveys. The data come from a range of opinion polls and surveys on topics such as national and provincial politics, real estate buying habits, and Canadian heritage, among others.

Rather than contacting Carleton University for a Gallup poll as indicated under "Background" on the following webpage, University of Lethbridge users should write down the date, poll number and any specific variables of interest they find on the following website and then contact the University of Lethbridge Data Library with that information at: data.library@uleth.ca The U of L Data Library will be able to contact Carleton University and obtain requested datasets for authorized University of Lethbridge users.

Alternatively, Gallup Polls from 1971-2002 are available in print in the University of Lethbridge's OVERSIZE Collection at: HM 261 A1 G36
