  • Envisions an alternate or futuristic world/universe.  
  • Often addresses themes of truth, loyalty, justice, ethical considerations and societal issues.  
  • Dystopian literature is typically a sub-genre of Science Fiction. 
  • Can be used to introduce theories and laws in science, or to generate questions related to technology and innovation. 
  • Speculative fiction often has elements of fantasy and science fiction mixed in.
