Alberta Historical Air Photos Available @ U. of Lethbridge Library -- About the Collection

The U. of L Library has a historical collection of Alberta air photos from years 1949 to 1982. Air photos are located in Remote Storage at the University Library. Access by appointment. Photo to right (A18223-67; Lethbridge, Alberta, 1963) is an example of imagery in the collection.

Tips for locating air photos:

For air photos of a particular location, determine the corresponding NTS map areas -- see NTS grid below at left.
Alberta's Aerial Photo Record System (APRS) provides flight line maps of air photos in the collection (Search APRS); flight lines also include image centre points.
Air photos at U. of Lethbridge are organized by year; use the Air Photo Inventory lists below to identify available coverage for a particular year; some photos digitized and available online.

There are up to 16 individual air photo mosaics (1:50K) for each separate NTS area. They are numbered 1 to 16.
The NTS Index for the Prairie Provinces [via U. of Calgary Library] provides additional detail for identifying NTS map sheet locations for Alberta.
