How to identify a monograph

How to identify Monographs and Anthologies in our Search Results

8 STEPS

1. Looking at your search results in the library catalogue it's hard to tell if a book is an anthology or not.

Step 1 image

2. One clue is if there is no author listed under the title of the book

Step 2 image

3. Looking at the record for the book, we see that it has 2 editors but no author.

Step 3 image

4. Looking at the contents we can see that there are individual authors for each chapter. That makes this an anthology.

Step 4 image

5. Back to our search results. We see a book that does have an author.

Step 5 image

6. This book has one author. It doesn't have an editor.

Step 6 image

7. Looking at the contents we see the chapters listed. The chapters do not have individual authors because they are all authored by the same person. The person is listed as the author in this book record. So this is a monograph.

8. That's it. You're done.
