H-Net: Humanities and Social Sciences Online This website's "Discussion Networks" page provides lists of topics and links you to discussions and articles related to each topic. The website includes a search function.

Best of History Web Sites This portal gives links of many websites dedicated to history, and provides a description of each website.

History On-line This website provides many resources for research in history including guides and articles. This website has a search function.

WWW-VL HISTORY CENTRAL CATALOGUE This is an online catalogue for history research which provides links to other online resources. Entries are divided by Continent, Eras and Epochs, Topics, and Methods and Materials. This website has a search function.  

ANCIENT/CLASSICAL HISTORY

Internet Ancient History Sourcebook This site provides links to electronic texts, as well as to a host of resources for the study of ancient history and history in general. A search of this site and its links will benefit any researcher.

The American Classical League Dedicated to the study and teaching of the classics, this site offers many useful links, particularly under its TEXT section, where links to Greek and Latin electronic texts can be found.

Exploring Ancient World Cultures: Internet Cite Index This index links you to web resources related to the study of Ancient History.

Digital Roman Forum This website is dedicated to a digital model of the Roman Forum. It allows you to see the forum and explore the sources and evidence used to create it.

Electronic Resources for Classicists: The Second Generation This website provides links to resources used for research in Classical History. The categories are divided by material type (images, bibliographies, web projects, etc.)

Pomoerium: Classical Resources 

Diotima Materials for the Study of Women and Gender in the Ancient World: A particularly rich collection of bibliographies dealing with a range of topics related to women in the ancient world.

Voice of the Shuttle: Classical Studies Lists of links to resources for Classical Studies research, divided into categories, including "history and culture".

Perseus Digital Library This site offers electronic versions of Greek texts and English translations, along with lexicons and other useful tools. A huge database of photos adds to the usefulness of this site.The Collections/Texts section of this digital library project provides primary and secondary source material on a variety of topics, many relating to Ancient History.

The Internet Classic Archive This site offers a search tool of over 400 Greek and Latin texts in English translation. A great site for doing quick English word searches in classical texts.

The Ancient Greek World A database of photographs of some of the artifacts on display at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Each photo has a brief description. Sections deal with "Land and Time," "Daily Life," "Economy," and "Religion & Death."

ANCIENT HISTORY: CHRISTIAN

Vatican Museum Hundreds of photos related to the early Christian and classical world, though the collection here has a wider interest.

The Ecole Initiative A four-star Magellan site offering a wealth of material for the study of early Christianity. Extensive collection of primary texts and images, and a fairly extensive glossary. A more limited section contains articles on a few of the important topics in the field. A helpful time-line is also provided.
Resource Pages for Biblical Studies This sites provides links to a substantial collection of materials on the world of the New Testament, and of the Roman world generally. Divided into five sections, it covers texts, electronic studies, aspects of the Mediterranean social world, computer technology, and a special section of Philo of Alexandria.
New Advent Catholic Supersite On this site, you'll find St. Thomas Aquinas's Summa Theologica, the classicCatholic Encyclopedia (3,001 articles, and growing), and a large collection of ancient Christian writings in the Church Fathers collection.
Guide to Early Church Documents Largely a site with links to electronic versions of primary texts (New Testament and patristic), but with some chronological helps and a few general links.

MEDIEVAL HISTORY

Byzantium: Byzantine Studies on the Internet

Internet Medieval Sourcebook This website provides primary and secondary source material for Medieval History research. Material is organized by category.

The Labyrinth: Resources for Medieval Studies This website provides free, organized access to electronic resources in medieval studies. Menus and links provide connections to databases, services, texts, and images.  

MODERN HISTORY

The Avalon Project at Yale Law School: Documents in Law, History and Diplomacy This project provides access to documents (including historical documents). These documents are organized by date.

Internet Modern History Sourcebook This website provides primary and secondary source material for Modern History research. Excellent site with thousands of electronic texts, as well as guides for studying history. This site covers the period from the Reformation to the present, arranged chronologically, making it easy to determine whether the site has a revelant text for the period being studied.

MILITARY HISTORY

Canadian Military History Gateway This website is maintained by the Directorate of History and Heritage, part of the Department of National Defense. It is an online service providing access to websites and digitized resources about Canada's military history.

War of 1812 digital Collection  This site is a search portal that provides historical documents and artifacts related to the war of 1812. You can search for books, maps, memoirs, military correspondence, and objects.

Early Canadiana Online This is a searchable collection of rare books, magazines and government publications. The collection includes material published from the time of the first European settlers to the first four decades of the 20th Century. 21 languages are represented in the collection.

Heroes Remember This is an online collection of first-hand accounts from Canadian service women and men.

World War II Resources: Primary source materials on the Web This website offers primary source material related to WWII.

WOMEN AND HISTORY

DoHistory This website is an online case study about a woman who accused a man of rape. Both sides of the story are presented with primary source material (court proceedings, diaries, wittness accounts, etc.).

Publications in Western Canadian Women's History This project provides resources to help readers understand Alberta's women's history. 

WITCHCRAFT

Survey of Scottish Witchcraft This is an electronic resource for the history of witchcraft and witch-hunting in Scotland. It is in two parts: an interactive database, and supporting web pages.

The Canadian Encyclopedia This website is a full-text, online version of The Canadian Encyclopedia and it covers topics related to Canada.

The Alberta Women's Memory Project This project inventories material related to women held in archives in Alberta and provides links to related resources on women's history.

The Black Past: Remembered and reclaimed This website provides information to the general public on African American history in the United States.

The Learning Page This is a website for history teachers and helps them use the library of congress's digital collections of primary sources in their classrooms.

Chronicling America:Historic American Newspapers This website lets you search for pages of American historical newspapers.

Chronology of US Historical Documents This website provides American historical documents in chronological order.

American Presidency Project The project's archives contain over 100, 000 documents related to the study of the Presidency of the United States.

Immigration to the United States, 1789-1930 This is a web-based collection of historical materials from Harvard's libraries, archives, and museums that document immigration to the United States.

The Valley of the Shaddow is a digital archive of primary sources that document the lives of people in Augusta County, Virginia, and Franklin County, Pennsylvania, during the era of the American Civil War. Here you may explore thousands of original documents that allow you to see what life was like during the Civil War for the men and women of Augusta and Franklin. The Valley of the Shadow is different than many other history websites. It is more like a library than a single book. There is no "one" story in the Valley Project. Rather, what you'll find are thousands of letters and diaries, census and government records, newspapers and speeches, all of which record different aspects of daily life in these two counties at the time of the Civil War. As you explore the extensive archive and you'll find that you can flip through a Valley resident's Civil War diary, read what the county newspapers reported about the battle of Gettysburg, or even search the census records to see how much the average citizen owned in 1860 or 1870.The Valley Project is a part of the Virginia Center for Digital History at the University of Virginia.

The Victorian Web Provides primary and secondary source material (documents and images) on British Victorian subjects (including social history).

Gentleman's Magazine from 1731 to 1866 This is an online exhibition of material from Gentleman's Magazine, divided into categories.

AFRICA

Internet African History Sourcebook This site presents sources related to the history of human societies in the continent of Africa.

16th- Early 20th Century Maps of Africa This site features digital copies of antique maps of Africa and their accompanying texts.

ASIA

Internet East Asian History Sourcebook This site provides sources related to the history of East Asia, divided by categories.
